Background

The National Research Fund (NRF) was established under the Science, Technology, and Innovation (ST&I) Act of 2013, with a mandate to mobilize and manage financial resources for the advancement of science, technology, and innovation. To achieve its mandate, NRF offers competitive research funding through calls for proposals across different ST&I priority areas. In this regard, there is a need for subject area experts to undertake technical reviews of proposals submitted to NRF from time to time. As part of its commitment to sustainable research funding, academic excellence, inclusivity, and intellectual rigor, NRF wishes to constitute a panel of reviewers to contribute their expertise in the proposal review process.

The Fund invites applications from individual experts across diverse geographic regions, institutional affiliations, career stages, and perspectives whose expertise aligns with the relevant thematic areas.

Reviewer Requirements

  • Citizenship: Be a Kenyan citizen
  • Qualifications: Academics, researchers, and practitioners with demonstrated expertise in relevant fields
  • Career Stage: Early-career researchers, mid-career scholars, and senior academics are equally encouraged to apply
  • Doctoral Candidates: Advanced doctoral candidates with appropriate subject-matter expertise may also be considered
  • Experience: Expertise in having reviewed other calls will be an added advantage

Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Provide a thorough, impartial, and constructive assessment of proposals for funding consideration
  • Evaluate submissions for originality, methodological soundness, and scholarly contribution
  • Adhere to ethical review practices such as confidentiality, data privacy and full disclosure, including conflict of interest
  • Complete allocated reviews within established timelines
